Africa Tech Radio (ATR), under the Data for Growth Initiative, officially announces the launch of “The Lagos We Share,” a comprehensive 360 perception management and civic cohesion campaign.
Designed to shift the public narrative ahead of the 2027 election cycle, the campaign seeks to reframe Lagos’s ethnic diversity as a strategic economic asset rather than a tool for political division.
Data from the 2023 elections revealed critical vulnerabilities in the state’s civic fabric, with a University research from a 2023 Kashere Journal Of Politics and International Relations indicating that 95.4% of surveyed residents acknowledged the presence of ethnic politics, and 85.6% reported witnessing political violence.
“The Lagos We Share” intervenes directly to prevent a recurrence, aiming to make ethnicity less useful as an instrument for political manipulation.
“Lagos does not need its residents to share the same ethnicity; it needs them to recognize their shared stake in its future,” stated the Program Lead at Africa Tech Radio, Anthony Ibe.
“When political actors exploit identity for electoral gain, it harms our shared prosperity, disrupts our markets, and threatens our tech ecosystems. This campaign is about demanding that leaders be judged strictly on their competence, integrity, and performance.”
The campaign will deploy a multi-channel strategy across six core pillars:
- The Diversity Dividend: Research and economic reports highlighting how cross-cultural cooperation fuels the Lagos economy.
- Faces of Lagos: Human-interest storytelling and documentaries breaking down stereotypes.
- Before You Share: Media literacy initiatives to combat political disinformation and fake news.
- The Lagos We Want: Focus on shared civic priorities like infrastructure, security, and healthcare.
- Peace Starts Here: Grassroots dialogues and the deployment of a voluntary Peace and Prosperity Charter across market and faith communities.
- The Lagos Unity Index: Ongoing research to measure attitudes toward diversity and political tolerance.
Through multilingual radio broadcasts in English, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Benin, and Efik, supported by digital outreach and grassroots town halls, the campaign will engage millions of residents across all demographics. The initiative will culminate in a major anchor event, bringing together key stakeholders, independent voices, and the public to solidify commitments to peaceful civic participation.
ATR calls on all residents, corporate organizations, civil society groups, and media partners to join the movement in protecting the dignity of every resident.
